The 2019 "It's a Breast Thing" Event

The 12th annual It’s a Breast Thing Event was another very successful evening! It was a mix of the familiar and new which proved to be very successful. The community decorated bras with the theme of “Your Favorite Book” were voted for and bid on, great health related exhibitors shared valuable information and a terrific Program with very beneficial conversation and information about Critical Pathways & Decision Making that was presented by local experts and lead by Dr. LaKeeya Tucker.

The highlight of the evening was a very touching video following the path of 2 local breast cancer patients on their journey after diagnosis and spreading the word about the grant program that we provide to local breast cancer patients. We were so fortunate that our survivors were able to be with us and each spoke to the crowd about their life today and what IBT offers. It supports what we do within the community to everyone in attendance.

The Outreach committee spoke about our mission for 2020 Year of Giving campaign which is to spread the word into all communities we work with and educate them about what we do in support of breast cancer patients with unmet needs relating to breast cancer treatments in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Shiawassee counties.

Bob Howe (our auctioneer)reached out to our guests in the ASK portion of the night and raised a record amount of money. It is because of the wonderful support we receive at this event and all year long that we will award a record amount of grants in 2020.

Our 2020 Year of Giving will be all about giving back to our community. We are excited to announce that for the first time we will be raising our grant amount from $500 to $1000 and we’ve also raised the income levels for grant eligibility, allowing more people to qualify for an IBT grant!

Please join us in 2021 for a celebratory event on October 5th to celebrate all the money given out in grants to our local breast cancer patients in 2020! You have made this possible!

The evening was all about celebrating survivorship as 300 guests came together to vote on the 35 creatively decorated bras, visit health related exhibitors, enjoy food and drinks and participate in supporting our local breast cancer patients.

The educational program……. ”A Focus on Wellness” was hosted by Dr. LaKeeya Tucker and our speakers for the evening included Barbara Brower, David Grimshaw DO, and Alexis Schneider all speaking on wellness  and health. Bob Howe supported our mission of enriching the lives of local breast cancer patients on their journey to better health with bringing our guests together to help fund grants for those in great financial need.

The evening came to a close with the announcement of the top 12 winning  bras that will be featured in the 2019 It’s a Breast Thing calendar with local survivors as the models. In addition the mention of the top 3 Fan Fav bras and a listing of silent auction bra winners were made. We would like to thanks everyone who came out for this very fun and beneficial evening. The 2017 "It's a Breast Thing" Event

“It’s a Breast Thing” 10 Year Anniversary Celebration 2017

It was a fabulous evening welcoming 400 guests to celebrate It’s a Breast Thing's ten year anniversary in support of local breast cancer patients. Always working to help women in need we became a non profit charity in 2010 and began awarding grants to local breast cancer patients for their out of pocket expenses. To date there have been 130 grants awarded.

On October 3rd Eagle Eye Golf Club was full of energy in celebration of what has been accomplish and what is still to come in the future for local patients. It was an evening with many familiar activities that guests have gathered to enjoy over the years. The theme for the bra decorating contest this year was Glamorous Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor was amazing as former calendar models/breast cancer survivors modeled the bras for our guest to admire before they voted and bid on their favorite! The top 12 chosen will be featured in the 2018 IBT Calendar. Our health related exhibitors were full of the latest information in health care as well as fun pink wigs, massage and chiropractic adjustments.

The evening continued with a video highlighting the history of IBT and the impact on the community. Bob Howe, was the auctioneer for the evening and kept the fun alive and donations flowing with the auctioning off of an MSU package, trips to Florida and Torch Lake, wine and local dining and services from a local DJ…….. to name a few.

Our guests enjoyed refreshments, champagne and chocolates and lots of fundraising to help It’s a Breast Thing continue its mission…………to enrich the lives of local breast cancer patients on their journey to better health.
